Aware of the challenges our education systems face — like educator burnout and retention — KnowledgeWorks, a U.S. nonprofit organization that’s been partnering with learning communities to build and sustain vibrant learning communities for more than 25 years, saw the importance of taking a fresh look at the roles educators play.

And that’s why KnowledgeWorks envisioned eight educator roles of the future that respond to the changing landscape of learning and that center the needs, interests, and passions of learners.

In this session originally aired on January 30, 2025, Katherine Prince — KnowledgeWorks’ Vice President of Foresight and Strategy — explains the foresight process for developing the educator roles and other ways KnowledgeWorks integrates a foresight practice into its projects to help people innovate the future of learning.
