Biography
Brinda Dalal
Brinda is an entrepreneur and anthropologist and serves as the president of Dhoopa Ventures LLC, a company that conducts rapid, high-quality research in emerging and high tech markets. She advises industry strategists, start-ups, and not-for-profits on innovation opportunities that will surface in three to five years’ time, based on primary research and foresight studies on people’s changing aspirations, expectations and practices. Prior to Dhoopa, Brinda was instrumental in developing the clean technology initiative at the Palo Alto Research Center, and helped to build an ethnographic competency within Xerox Global Services. She also led projects on peer-to-peer support networks in health care, mobile futures and usable security in the home.
Brinda obtained a PhD and MPhil in Social Anthropology from the University of Cambridge. Before working with highly networked nomads in Silicon Valley, she studied and lived with nomadic pastoralists as they migrated with their buffalo herds across the Himalayas. Brinda acts as an advisor on a few Boards and has served on the council for Woodstock School, an international institution that provides high school students with a global worldview.
