Biography
Deepa Mehta
As Research Manager, Deepa works closely with IFTF Distinguished Fellow Bob Johansen on custom client engagements that range from research and horizon scanning to workshop development and facilitation. She enjoys working with organizations to apply the strategic foresight process in order to discover actionable insights.
Deepa's current research is focused on the commercial innovation landscape of the future, especially in relation to the changing dynamics of urbanization, design and manufacturing, as well as knowledge and distribution networks. She is deeply interested in the impacts of technological change and economic development on the built environment.
Having lived in Mumbai, Los Angeles, New Jersey, New York, London, and San Francisco, Deepa brings a cross-cultural, interdisciplinary perspective to futures thinking. She received her M.Sc. in urban planning from Columbia University and her B.A. in political economy from Rutgers University. Prior to joining the Institute, Deepa worked as a planner for cultural heritage, institutional, and transportation projects. She has given talks on her research on networks, the social processes of innovation, and technology adoption in developing cities and regions, at various venues including Stanford University and Globelics, the Global Network for Economics of Learning, Innovation, and Competence Building Systems.
