Follow up to post about video bikes: They're fun!
I blogged the other day about these cool new stationary bikes I had seen at the gym. I was there again yesterday (twice in one week!), and noticed a woman who was riding away intensely on one of them. A few minutes later, she triumphantly shouted, "I won!!" and stretched her arms overhead in victory. It was as if she had just passed Lance Armstrong to take a leg of the Tour de France. I chuckled to myself, and then realized this was a moment of opportunity for me to conduct some field research.

Taking virtual laps on a stationary bike
I've been working on a private client project recently, thinking about how games and elements of gaming can be used to promote physical activity and improve health outcomes. I am a sporadic gym go-er myself, and I tend to prefer the rowing machine to any of the other cardio equipment, even though it doesn't have a television or any bells and whistles. But this morning, as I was leaving, I noticed that my gym has two brand-new Expresso Fitness stationary bikes, which I had just been reading about for my project.
