This coming Monday and Tuesday, May 17 and 18, the Technology Horizons program will be hosting our spring conference at the Quadrus Center in Menlo Park, CA. If you are not attending, you can follow along on Twitter using this hashtag: #FoW.
Some highlights from Monday will include:
*An introductory address by Program Director Lyn Jeffery will introduce our research's central themes: how will we learn to harness the power of persuasive technologies, new media channels, and data, to motivate actions we want, while at the same time protecting ourselves from unwanted influences?
*IFTF researchers Jason Tester and Mike Liebhold will take us on a tour of the landscape of changing tools, techs, and practices. We’ll learn about new research on the science of emotions, to the network as a persuasive agent, to exploring how emerging “haptic literacies” – new experiences of touch and interacting with digital surfaces—will offer more powerful motivations for changing our daily activities.
*Future designers Jake Dunagan, Stuart Candy, and Jessica Charlesworth will prepare our minds for the coming day and a half by engaging us in interactions that help us embody the persuasive strategies of the future.
* Stanford University's Dr. BJ Fogg, founder of the field of persuasive technologies, will deliver a keynote address.
Tuesday will feature presentations and panels that dive into three key areas of our Future of Persuasion research - Health, Advertising, and Learning:
* IFTF researcher David Pescovitz will engage a panel of experts to debate the future of marketing and advertising in a super-persuasive, context-aware world. We’ll explore the changing nature of the relationship between consumers, producers, and brands, and ask, Which channels, technologies, and agents will be most trusted, useful, and most persuasive?
* IFTF’s Vivian Distler will explore the future of behavior change around health, with the aid of experts in future simulations, health networks as persuasive agents, and the biology of emotions. What new lifestyles will we be able to achieve for ourselves, given our new abilities to motivate active change?
* Research Manager Mathias Crawford will look at the Persuasion and Learning. From learning through crowd-sourced knowledge in context, to programming workflow to match personal neurochemistry, we will be using persuasive technologies to learn and work in more effective, productive, and satisfying ways. A panel of experts will explore the future of persuasive learning at home and at work.
We are very excited about the new research we will be presenting at the conference, and can't wait for the stimulating, informative, and persuasive conference!
