J&J Future of Health and Health Care 2020 Research Debrief Page
Welcome to the J&J Future of Health and Health Care 2020 Research Debrief private website, hosted by the Institute for the Future.
The following is the agenda from the webex meeting that took place on July 14, 2009. The powerpoints from the each of the sessions are available in the right margin for download.
First Session - Signals,Trends, and Forecasts
We will take us on a tour of the Health Horizons Program’s new HC 2020 Signals and Forecasts Map, which charts our commons, market, policy, and science and technology-driven responses to health and health care’s most pressing challenges. We’ll look at the current landscape ofsignals and present the direction of change they help anticipate. We’ll also share a number of key forecasts—from emerging participatory health paradigms to quantified medical practices—that will converge over the next ten years. Thevarying forms and combinations of these convergences give rise to our alternative future scenarios.
Second Session- Exploring Alternative Futures
We will do a brief introduction to alternativefutures thinking and present you with several alternative futures scenarios forthe future of health and health care. We will look at how different stakeholders—citizens and consumers, clinicians and payers—and systems (such as those focused on health care, food and nutrition, and ecology and the environment) may respond to these alternative futures. Each alternative future is a plausible, internally consistent story set in the year 2020. There is no worst or best case scenario; all four scenarios will result in winners and losers alike.
