IFTF Celebrates 40 Years!
On Tuesday, April 8, 2008, friends and family of Institute for the Future gathered to launch a yearlong celebration of IFTF's 40 years.
The future is everything we can imagine: the fearsome, the inspiring, the inexplicable, the essential. 40 years ago, our founders imagined a world in which it would be possible to improve human lives and build better institutions by thinking systematically about the future. Today, we call this practice "Foresight to Insight to Action."

As part of the April 8th celebration, hosted by Executive Director Marina Gorbis and Distinguished Fellow and former president Bob Johansen, we went back in time to look at 40 years of future forecasting. After our journey to the past, Howard Rheingold brought us back to the future as he presented "Looking Forward: Bringing Foresight to Civil Society." We also took some time to reflect on the life and legacy of Roy Amara, late co-founder and President Emeritus.

Our "40+10 Years of Insight" map, which you can find and download here, serves as a dynamic overview of IFTF's 40 years of work on the future and will be updated throughout the year. It highlights our vision, our methodologies, and our major research topics as well as the directions we're heading in the next ten years. Please feel free to download the map and share links to this page with others.
