IFTF + You
Make the Future, Change the Future
Give now and join us in shaping a better future for good!
At IFTF we do not believe in being passive bystanders to the future. The future doesn’t just happen. We all have agency to make the future—the future belongs to everyone. This is why for the past 46 years we have worked with organizations, communities, and individuals to help them systematically think about the future, bringing foresight and insight about the coming decade to help inform actions today.
As a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit committed to helping people envision and make a better future, we explore the vast range of future possibilities, connecting humanity’s greatest challenges with the greatest opportunities for transformation. We call these urgent futures—developments and opportunities with such extraordinary potential for changing the human landscape that we must pursue them, for to ignore them would be at our own peril.

Urgent Futures Labs
Our Urgent Futures Labs pursue novel, transformative projects and collaborate with leading thinkers and doers to imagine better futures for Education, Health/Wellness, Technology, Work, Governance, and Food.
Our annual fellowship program brings together six practical visionaries twho are helping to shape conversations around urgent futures. IFTF’s Future for Good Fellows see beyond the day-to-day horizon to anticipate innovations with transformational potential. But they are more than visionaries—they are activators, connectors, and enablers who care about impact as much as ideas.
We build toolkits, maps, immersive Artifacts from the Future, and other foresight tools based on our research. As a nonprofit, our tools are available to the public and designed for use in policymaking, corporate strategy meetings, schools, neighborhood councils, and individual futures planning.
Immersive Futures Experiences
IFTF holds interactive public gatherings with IFTF researchers, Fellows, leading edge innovators, and experts. These gatherings, such as our +Tech series, are opportunities to explore IFTF’s current research areas and see the newest innovations first-hand.
William Gibson said it best: "The future is already here, it’s just unevenly distributed." IFTF tracks down and assess signals—real-life indicators of the future that is already here but unevenly distributed. In our new space, we will create demonstration areas where these signals will help bring our forecasts to life via a variety of new media.
The IFTF Gallery for the Future at 201 Hamilton Avenue in Palo Alto, California presents the work of multi-disciplinary artists who we engage with temporality through new media tools and creative approaches to design and aesthetic production. Our rotating exhibits will relate to the same futures themes that we approach through our research and labs.
